Reuven Kahane, a national real estate company president and attorney accused of driving around a pro-Palestinian protest, had his case dismissed and sealed.

Kahane had a heated argument with a large group of protesters after they surrounded and banged on his car. The protestors were demonstrating near the Park Avenue home of a Columbia University trustee.

Police arrived within minutes and took Kahane into custody. Maryellen Novak, 55, and John Rozendaal, 63, the two activists, were also arrested for criminal mischief. Rozendaal was previously apprehended in March for interrupting an Easter service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral during a pro-Palestinian demonstration. None of the student protesters present were charged with any crimes.

According to the New York State Unified Court System, Mr. Kahane’s case was dismissed and is no longer visible in the court records.

The case received widespread media coverage because Reuven Kahane is related to Meir Kahane, and the event occurred during a period of heightened anti-Israel demonstrations at Columbia. City officials, including Mayor Eric Adams, continuously claimed that “outsiders” were responsible for instigating much of the chaos. This protest on the Upper East Side happened shortly after a group of pro-Palestinian protesters had forcibly taken over a building on the university’s Morningside Heights campus.
